Dean Kereiakes, MD, FACC

Since coming to The Christ Hospital in 1985, Dr. Dean J. Kereiakes has gained international acclaim and is recognized by his peers as one of the top interventional cardiologists in the world.
He was valedictorian of the 1978 graduating class at The University of Cincinnati School of Medicine. Dr. Kereiakes then completed an internship and residency at the University of California, San Francisco, a senior residency at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and a Chief Residency at the University of California, San Francisco. He followed that with fellowships in adult cardiology at the University of California, San Francisco and in coronary angioplasty at the San Francisco Heart Institute and the Sequoia Hospital. Upon completing his medical training, he opted to return to his hometown of Cincinnati to dedicate his career to the health of the community.
He started as an attending interventional cardiologist at The Christ Hospital and rose steadily to his current position as Medical Director of The Christ Hospital Heart and Vascular Center as well as Medical Director of the Carl and Edyth Lindner Center for Research and Education at The Christ Hospital. He is also Professor of Clinical Medicine at Ohio State University. In 1995, he founded the physician practice, Ohio Heart & Vascular Center.
In addition to lecturing extensively, both nationally and internationally on interventional cardiology, Dr. Kereiakes has served as principal or co-investigator in over 1,100 trials. He has been an investigator for most of the interventional technologies introduced in the last two decades. He has also performed more than 25,000 catheterization laboratory procedures and published over 700 journal articles, abstracts and book chapters. He currently serves on editorial boards of the most prestigious medical journals as well as scientific advisory boards for notable device and pharmaceutical companies.
Dr. Kereiakes is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology. He was a member of the Joint American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association Task Force Committees to write guidelines for both coronary angioplasty and unstable angina. Dr. Kereiakes has been selected as Outstanding Alumnus University of Cincinnati School of Medicine, Who’s Who in the World, Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in Medicine and Healthcare, Who’s Who in Science and Engineering, Best Doctors in America and has received the Cincinnati Business Courier Health Care Hero – Innovator award and the Ohio Valley American Heart Association’s Kaplan Visionary Award for cardiovascular research.
